MARINE THREATS AND SOLUTIONS

Below are some of the problems, threats and issues concerning marine biodiversity. And below each issue is the proposed solutions which we came up with.

Coral Reef Destruction Caused By Improper Way Of Fishing

According to the management of the Technology Centre for Marine Survey in Indonesia, fishermen need to reduce fishing in areas where some species are endangered. Also local government units can establish more marine protected areas and banning the use of dynamite and cyanide fishing, which may cause death in marine organisms and pollution, respectively.

Oil Spillage

Proper monitoring for fueling or refueling process and to double check equipments.

Over Exploitation

Establish more marine reserves and marine protected areas.

Global Warming

Reduce the usage of fossil fuels to prevent further increase in the amount of greenhouse gasses; oxides of sulphur and nitrogen which directly cause global warming.

Radioactive contamination

Changing the genetic makeup of marine organisms to help prevent radioactive materials. However, this idea is not yet proven. Further studies should be done to make this possible
